After a long week in early September, I was seeking solace and artistic inspiration. I went to the Charles River Esplanade in Boston. It was a perfect evening, with people enjoying the river in various ways. At one end of the Esplanade lies this quite area surrounded by a circle of land and little islands. Seeing the gondolier with three passengers, I was struck by the blissful quiet romance of it. I intentionally moved to place it between the two strips of land. This is the painting inspired by that moment.
